2025 Interior Design Trends: Rich Colours and Personal Expression
As we settle into 2025, I wanted to share some of the interior design trends that are shaping our homes and spaces this year. We’re seeing a beautiful evolution of colour, texture, and personal expression that feels both fresh and timeless. This fits perfectly into my own personal design ethos of creating truly liveable, personality-filled homes for my clients across Kent, Sussex and London. Read on to find out more about these top trends for 2025.
Colour: Earthy palettes and colour drenching
While I’ve always been drawn to cool tones (blame it on being a Piscean!) I'm finding myself increasingly tempted by this year’s rich, earthy palette. We’re seeing a sophisticated shift from the ubiquitous plaster pinks of recent years—though these haven’t disappeared completely and are now making surprising appearances in spaces like kitchens.

The real stars of 2025 are the deep, nurturing earth tones, like clay browns and rich oxblood reds. Warm neutrals are more my style (you’ll still find me reaching for Farrow & Ball’s Old White or Skimming Stone in many of my schemes) which can be used to complement these earthy hues. Deep burgundies, navy blues, saturated greens and terracotta are also set to dominate colour trends this year.

For those seeking tranquility, soft greens and muted blues continue to be popular choices. These colours have a proven connection to wellness and calm—read more about this in my previous article. This year we’re also seeing a rise in chestnut brown, ochre yellow and moss greens in both residential and commercial spaces.

One of the most striking trends this year is colour drenching, where a single colour is applied throughout a space, including walls, doors, and even window treatments. This technique creates a cocoon-like atmosphere that feels both bold and comforting.

Furniture: Comfort meets sophistication
The desire for comfort hasn’t waned, but this year it’s taking on a more refined expression. Upholstery is becoming larger, softer, and curvier, with fabrics playing a crucial role. While velvet and bouclé have dominated recent years, chenille is now taking centre stage, offering both comfort and durability.

Another popular design request this year is the breakfast nook, particularly with upholstered banquette seating. These spaces are the perfect design solution for modern living, creating intimate areas that are more casual than formal dining rooms, but more intentional than kitchen counter seating. They’re excellent examples of how multifunctional spaces can be both practical and stylish—this family kitchen I designed in Tunbridge Wells is a great example of this trend.
Individuality: Slow interiors and personal expression
Perhaps the most exciting trend of 2025 is the move toward what I call ‘slow interiors’, meaning spaces that evolve over time and tell personal stories. As Kelly Wearstler perfectly puts it, ‘Individuality will always set your space apart.’ She encourages us to consider how our interiors connect with other aspects of our lives—our music, fragrance choices, fashion, and art collections. This approach to eclectic interiors is very much my own style. I love helping clients create spaces that reflect their journey, incorporating vintage pieces and personal treasures alongside contemporary elements.

Final thoughts
As we move through 2025, it’s clear that interior design is embracing both boldness and individuality. Whether you’re drawn to the warmth of earth tones, the drama of colour drenching, or the comfort of curved furniture, there’s never been a better time to express yourself through your home’s interior. What excites me most about these trends is their adaptability—they can be interpreted in so many ways, from subtle touches to dramatic statements. The most successful designs will be those that thoughtfully incorporate these elements, while still staying true to the inhabitants’ personality and lifestyle. If you’re inspired by these 2025 trends and looking to refresh your home, I'd love to help you create a space that’s both on-trend and uniquely yours.
