A Fresh Family Home Makeover: Part 2 – The Final Transformation
In last month’s blog post I shared my vision and plans for transforming a family’s East Sussex home. Now, it’s time for the exciting reveal! Let’s take a tour through this stunning makeover, showcasing how the design concepts have been brought to life with the help of carefully selected suppliers and unique touches.
Hallway: A grand welcome
For this double-height space we decided on herringbone flooring and lots of plants to create a light airy atmosphere. A bespoke 9-way cluster pendant from Wales-based Fritz Fryer – a company I use often – now gives a striking first impression upon entering the house.
Formal sitting room: Light and airy elegance
This room embraces a light palette of blue, oak, and white. Brass and glass lighting from Soho Home illuminates the space, while vintage cabinet furniture and teak shelving from Vinterior add character. We also opted for curtains from Zoe Glencross to perfectly complement my clients’ Middle Eastern wall art.
Kitchen: A burst of colour and light
One of the biggest changes we introduced here was a glossy mustard basketweave tile splashback to go with the new colour scheme. This was paired with elegant brass and glass lights from Spark and Bell and a vintage teak dining table from the Midcentury Modern show in Dulwich. We tied the space together with a comfortable chair from a made-to-order Etsy shop and a colour-coordinating rug from Scion.
A statement floor lamp by wonderful Devon-based designer Stuart Lamble was added to create a warm, inviting space combining mid-century charm with modern functionality.
Snug: Cosy sophistication
The larger of the two sitting rooms has been transformed into a cosy retreat, bathed in a palette of Prussian blue walls and complemented by deep greens and mustards. We decided on rich velvet sofas from Adventures in Furniture for a luxe feel and vintage-inspired curtain fabric by Poodle and Blonde to add a whimsical touch.
An upholstered ottoman from The Footstool Workshop provides extra seating and a vintage sideboard houses the TV. We also included some eye-catching ceiling light shades from one of my favourite independent designers Ciara O'Neill to complete the cosy yet sophisticated ambiance.
Master bedroom: A luxurious retreat
After much debate on paint colour, we achieved a boutique hotel vibe with walls in a carefully chosen pink from Lick. A green velvet upholstered bed takes centre stage, together with beautiful green ceramic lamps on either side. We completed the look with floral curtains from Sanderson and teak furniture sourced from Mustard Vintage.
Teenage bedrooms: Personalised spaces
The daughter’s room evolved from a beach theme into a colourful haven. A pink and green colour scheme with a sunset arc motif sets the tone, complemented by funky lights, mirrors, and bamboo furniture. Bedside lamps from Winters Moon, a cosy blanket from Melin Tregwynt, curtains from Anthropologie, and a soft rag rug from East London-based Floor Story add layers of comfort and style.
The finishing touch
As with a lot of my work, all the beautiful soft furnishings for this family home were expertly crafted by my resident seamstress workroom, Natasha Davies Interiors.
This project showcases how thoughtful design and carefully chosen pieces can completely transform a home. By blending vintage finds with contemporary elements and focusing on colour and texture, we’ve created a space that’s both stylish and deeply personal to the family on this next chapter in their lives.
